Discover the biology and craft of growing edible mushrooms!
Join me for a casual hands-on mushroom cultivation experience starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26th.
Participants will learn the essentials of growing edible mushrooms in vegetable garden compost, wood chips, and logs using various forms of mushroom spawn (plugs, sawdust, and grain), and after a quick lesson on using a power drill, they will learn the proper techniques for drilling hardwoods and plugging them with fresh mushroom spawn. You will inoculate a log with oyster, shiitake, or lion's mane mushroom plugs for take-home perennial harvesting.
What an exciting way to recycle recently cut hardwoods and to make use of shaded garden areas while producing healthy and nutritious food!
Space is limited.
The cost is $50.00 per person.

“Design a homestead food forest”
A forest is an ecosystem that takes care of itself without human intervention. A food forest is a type of garden mirrored after a traditional forest but incorporates edible plants, fruit trees etc.
Once established, a food forest will become its own ecosystem and will need very little, if any, human interaction while providing fresh, healthy food.
In this workshop you will learn what are some key elements to consider before you dig. Things like soil, water, wind, ground slope, sunshine, plant selection etc.
